Destinkify Your Shoes // Sneaker Science Episode 1
-Hey, what's going on Jake?
-There's the man! Come on in! -You like my colorful flames?
-What are you up to? Isn't that something? Oh I'm just
messing around a little bit… You ready to destinkify shoes today? I am ready to destinkify some shoes! Well let's get into it! (Music) Roll in the shoes! Oh man. Jeez, that's
gonna need destinkifying right? Let's grab a shoe… If feet could talk…So what could make a shoe stink that bad? -That bad. Well there's a there's
a term for it: bromodosis.
-Bromo who? You heard of halitosis, bad breath? Well feet stink is called bromodosis. Maybe a new song… (Music: Bromodosis, stinky shoes…) -How do we get rid of the bromodosis?
-A quick and easy thing to do is
just to sprinkle some baking soda down the shoe… Put your hand over the end of
it and just shake it up. Shake and bake! And I would just put that in the closet
overnight or something like that.
You know it already smells better doesn't it? -What's method number 2?
-Here you go. -See what it says on that label?
-Premium activated carbon. Activated carbon and that means carbon
is just like burnt new charcoal like burnt wood and you can buy that at the grocery store… and you just dump some of it in that shoe. Smell the difference in the shoe already, here sniff on that! -Not bad!
-It's gone, it's been de-stinked!
-It happens that quick? -Sweet, isn't it?
-Quite the transformation. So we can go do the quick and easy method. -My wife's not around, is she?
-I don't think so.
-She doesn't like when I do this. So I'm gonna set this for 180 degrees. This can go wrong if you forget you put the shoe in the oven. Take them out now. Little warm, here you go! There you go, pull those off. Fresh-baked shoes, just for you Alf. -Wasn't that white when we put it in?
-It was white. -It does smell nice.
-Like a brand-new shoe. -Smells like a hot shoe.
-That new-shoe smell! This is the quick and easy method…Ooo ice cream, hold on a second.
Put that in there, anywhere in the freezer… and you know at 10 or 15 minutes that shoe will be down to zero degrees and
it will either kill the microbes in there or they will hibernate, and you won't have
any more stink for a while. For the sneakerhead out there that spends a lot
of money on their shoes that they like… -Yeah you got to take care
of your shoes!
-You just spat about a million dollars worth of game… Oh yeah yeah just
think ahead – this is this is precious business. Now this is for normal people
and we love them and you do that at home- -but, it's Wizard time!
-Yeah, let's do this!
-Oh looky here we're ready to go. Put those goggles on, you gotta protect your
eyes.
And here it is: the great stink, right? -There it is…
-And we're going to use
some liquid nitrogen at minus 196 degrees to freeze these guys to death.
Here are some cryogenic gloves. I'll have you put this on…
-Alright…
-We're going to
pour the liquid nitrogen on top of that shoe and we can say goodbye to the
microbes and bacteria that are in there because their cells will freeze solid and
they'll explode! Let's get 'em where they live. Bye boys! Yeah, that's sweet.
I know that shoe by now is well below 100 degrees below zero.
There you go. But I think by now all the bacterial cells and the fungi are now
frozen and exploded actually. Alright now here's a final test. You got
it all out of there? Let's take a whiff of
that and see if we can smell anything. -There he goes…see it going up his
nose?
-It's like a breath of fresh air! Well obviously what we did here could be
very dangerous. You could suffer severe frostbite so I'm sure glad you did it
instead of me.
-Right yeah thank you thank, you very much.
Thank you for putting me
in danger!
-That's right, my pleasure! Hey thanks for destinkifying shoes
with us today, it was a gas wasn't it? -Literally!
-Literally a gas. We did it
four ways with things you can do around the house and then we used liquid
nitrogen of course to do it the Wizard way. And if you'd like to see more…
